Several hours have passed, and Jack has given up on his book. This hotel is not a suite, so Ferris and Adeel are playing Mario Kart at full volume only feet away from where Jack sits trying and failing to focus on reading. Once again, he has read the same paragraph multiple times without realizing, nor comprehending.

He sighs and tosses the book aside and looks over at the rest of the team. Ferris and Adeel sit on the edge of the first bed enraptured in their game. Ferris’s feet don’t touch the ground, even in their platform boots. Adeel sits with his legs crossed beneath him, a bowl of popcorn balanced on his lap. Lydia is lounging behind them, watching the screen too. She took her shoes off before getting on the bed, and Jack notices her mismatched socks, though both depict dogs. Austin sits looking at his laptop at the small desk, one hand in his hair, the other propping up his chin as he reads what’s on the screen.

“I can’t believe no one even cared we made out, Adeel,” she says, referring to their kiss during the livestream. They had watched their mentions on Twitter and set Google alerts, but no one seems to have noticed or cared about their fake romance.

“Yeah,” Adeel says distractedly. “Dammit!” He throws his arms up in the air as the scoreboard displays on the screen, Ferris having won again. Adeel turns to Lydia and says, “Yeah, that’s weird. We full-on kissed. Somebody had to have seen.”

“We were pretty obvious back there. Maybe Camilla will come through for us,” Lydia says.

“She’s our biggest fan. Maybe she will,” Adeel says.

Austin laughs. “She is not our biggest fan.”

“What do you mean?” Adeel asks.

“Jack knows. Remember our meet and greet in Atlanta in 2016?”

“Yes.” Jack says.

“Remember the girl with the sign?”

“How could I forget,” Jack says flatly. At their first meet and greet after getting pretty big on YouTube, where most of the fans were casual and just wanted to say hello, there was one girl who wanted... a bit more than that. She showed up with a sign that said ‘Future Mrs. Finch’ and begged both of them to sign her forehead, among other things. “Caty.”

“Caty!” Austin laughs. “She liked you,” he teases.

Jack groans. He had hoped never to have to think about that girl again. She terrorized him online for months until he stopped reading comments altogether. That was definitely a good choice. They had started to get pretty graphic.

“Jack had a groupie?” Cecil asks, grinning.

“She was not a groupie.”

“Jack had a groupie!” Ferris says triumphantly.

“How have I not heard about this girl?” Lydia asks.

“You probably have, actually. Ever see tweets or messages from @jackiesgirl93?”

“Yes, she just called me beautiful in the last Instagram post.”

“That’s one of her many accounts.”

“Really? Huh. Well she has good taste apparently,” she says, flipping her hair.

“She liked Jack too,” Ferris points out. “I don’t know about ‘good taste.’” They grin and wink at Jack.

“Hey!” Cecil says. “That’s so mean.
